Gordon Matta-Clark’s “Freshkill”
UbuWeb, the large online archive of avant-garde art, has posted a streaming video of Gordon Matta-Clark’s 1972 “Freshkill,” filmed at the Fresh Kills Landfill. The short film depicts the destruction of the artist’s truck by a bulldozer. The video is also available for download as an MP4.

For a catalog of community outreach programs inspired by the work of Gordon Matta-Clark, visit “Urban Alchemy/Gordon Matta-Clark: Transformation” at http://mattaclark.pulitzerarts.org/transformation/. One project in particular you might find interesting is the garbage collection for the re-creation of Matta-Clark’s Garbage Wall. In “Garbage Wall: Community Collection,” the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts went to schools and asked students to think about different ways trash can be reused.
Excellent! Thanks for the tip, Amy. We’ll check it out.
