Spring marks the beginning of the Freshkills Park tour season. The tours are a chance to share the vision of Freshkills Park with the public and sometimes a prompt for the public to share its thoughts about the site with us. These watercolors are “Impressions” of the site created by a great group of young women known as the Green Girls. A program run by the City Parks Foundation, Green Girls provides middle-school girls with intensive summer experiences that enrich their understanding of science and environmental justice issues while exposing them to New York City’s natural resources. We’re happy to have made an impression, and we’ve uploaded a few of the girls’ paintings to our flickr page.
